MLB fans were in awe after the Tigers unveiled a massive 15,688-square-foot videoboard ahead of Opening Day
The Detroit Tigers won’t host their official home opener for another week. But when fans arrive to Comerica Park on April 5, they’ll see a videoboard that is perhaps MLB’s first scoreboard to be *too* big.
The Tigers unveiled the 15,688 square-foot, T-shaped scoreboard to reporters on Wednesday. And while the videoboard will rank second behind Citi Field’s behemoth of a screen, the location behind the left-field stands makes the Comerica Park videoboard especially imposing.
I mean, look at this thing. That’s like sitting front row at an IMAX movie.
Part of me wishes the Tigers went all in and filled in the entire structure with a screen instead of going with the T-shaped configuration. But I can’t fault any team for making upgrades to the stadium experience.
Comerica Park came in at No. 19 in our most recent stadium rankings, and the videoboard will certainly have fans talking once games start there this season.
Citi Field’s videoboard, by comparison, is located behind center field, so the added distance makes the screen (though still hilariously large) seem more reasonable.
The Tigers opted instead to blow fans away with the massive videoboard and left-field location.
