I’m a cleaning whizz and here’s how to get your stained or yellowed sheets white again using one common food ingredient
WITH the first day of spring coming tomorrow, now is the perfect time to blast through your spring cleaning.
And while many of us will be quick to remove stains from our clothes, our bed sheets are often neglected.
A bedding expert has revealed how to get stained or yellowed sheets white again[/caption]But if you’re expecting Easter guests a stained or yellowing sheet is a big no-no.
However, restoring them to their original whiteness can be tricky, but luckily one cleaning whizz has revealed a simple (and cheap!) trick to get them sparkling.
Bedding expert and CEO of Ethical Bedding, James Higgins, has revealed that one cupboard staple is all you need.
He says: “White sheets and duvet covers naturally become yellow over time with repeated use.
“Whilst beautiful crisp white bedding looks great year-round, they need regular upkeep to ensure your beautiful bedding can be used for many years to come.
“Those with cotton or linen bedding will usually suffer with the worst effect of yellowing as they are highly absorbing fabrics and are prone to discoloration over time.
“If your bedding is made from either of these materials, there is a simple and effective method to reclaim sheets to their former sparkling whites, and perhaps without spending a penny!
“Both the common household items, salt and bicarbonate of soda can be used together with water to restore your sheets to their former glory. Before putting your bedding on its regular washing cycle, prep your sheets with this yellowing stain lifter method.
“Take ½ a cup of salt, and mix it with ⅓ cup of bicarbonate of soda in 1 litre of boiling hot water. Mix the solution until everything is dissolved. Then take your bedding and add it to roughly 1 gallon of warm to hot water.
“This can be done either by hand wash, or you can put your bedding in a hand wash cycle in your machine if possible. With either method be sure to then add your 1 litre solution to the rest of the water.
“If you are hand washing, let the mixture soak for 30 minutes before removing. If in a washing machine, place it on a low spin cycle with a long rinse setting. Before you know it your bed sheet will be sparking white again!”
It’s as easy as that!
