The Villa: An Army of Lions
They may share their Claret and Blue home kit colours with teams such as West Ham United and Burnley, though even so, Aston Villa is an original, striking force to be reckoned with. They are as their traditional club badge states, a rampant lion of English football.
Their history is littered with famous and skilled international professionals who wore their jerseys such as Trinidadian Dwight Yorke, England’s David Platt, Ireland’s Paul McGrath.
Aston Villa demonstrated also over the years their football finesse in the Second City Derby against local rivals Birmingham City. The Lions are armed with a long history in the top regions of English football with ups and downs, promotions, relegations. Villa had a more or less comfortable 2020-2021 Premier League season and looked forward to some new players for the 2021-2022 term. Dean Smith’s side finished 11th in the table last season and impressed many outside of B6.
They have two players on their side who are now on England duty and are in the squad for the Euro 2020 finals, Tyrone Mings and Jack Grealish. The return of on-loan French defender Frederic Guilbert to the side next season gives Villa more of a defensive emphasis. The right-back may yet steer them to more clean sheets and to higher in the table next season.
They also, of course, have obtained another string to their bow in the forward position with the record signing of Argentinean midfielder Emiliano Buendia. With his pace and assists form in the midfield, his future collaboration with Villa captain Jack Grealish (if indeed he stays at Villa) should potentially prove to be a powerhouse performance up the top of the field. This may also position them a few places higher in the top flight.
Aston Villa may well climb above their recent position in the Premiership next August. They certainly have the strike force to do it. Their long history in England’s top flights should prove an adequate base of experience to work from. With Dean Smith at the head of their ranks, they have a solid shot as he is a seasoned manager. He took former club Walsall to safety after they were in relegation territory. His Villa team may share their colours with other teams, their city with other local teams, their league with other teams. However, Aston Villa is ahead of the game when it comes to history, perseverance, experience.
