Megan Thee Stallion Says Goodbye to Broadway
And now, on top of everything else, Megan Thee Stallion is leaving Broadway. Klay Thompson, may you never know peace. Yesterday, Megan Thee Stallion announced that she’ll be stepping down from the role of Harold Zidler (yes, Jim Broadbent in the films) in Moulin Rouge on Broadway two weeks early. Given that this is coming just a few days after her seismic Instagram story announcing the end to her relationship with NBA star Klay Thompson over alleged cheating, one can only assume that Thompson’s cheating ass has now deprived us all of two weeks of Megan Thee Stallion on Broadway.
As if we needed any more reasons not to like him.
Let’s break down the timeline of events:
- On April 25, Megan posted an Instagram story that read, “Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house…got ‘cold feet’ Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous’ ???? bitch I need a REAL break after this one..bye yall.”
- Later that same day, Megan released a statement through TMZ saying, “I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay. Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward. I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”
- That same night, a video goes viral of Megan crying while getting a standing ovation at curtain call for Moulin Rouge.
- Two days later, on April 27, Megan announces she’ll be leaving the role of Zidler early, with her final performance being this Friday, May 1st, when she’d previously been scheduled to perform through May 17th.
So are the two things related? Was welcoming happy fans to the Moulin Rouge five nights a week too much to take on in the wake of public betrayal? For now, Megan has not given any specific reason for the early departure other than to say:
“It’s been such an honor to be part of Moulin Rouge and I’ve met so many amazing people in this theater! Y’all work so hard and I have so much respect for the dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort y’all put into the work! Every single person at the Moulin Rouge has inspired me to go harder as an entertainer. I’m so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful. Y’all are really some of the kindest human beings I’ve ever met! To all the Hotties that showed up or planned to attend, thank you for supporting me during this incredible journey!”
Based on the standing ovation she received, it’s safe to say no matter what Megan does next she’ll be surrounded by the love of the fans who support her. And as Ewan McGregor once sang from the top of an elephant “All you need is love.”
