Canada’s Lotts stay on top at World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND — Canada faced a challenging test in its two games Tuesday at the 2026 ACE & Company World Mixed Doubles Championship. After a morning win and an evening loss, Team Kadriana/Colton Lott remains in control of both their pool and their playoff destiny.

The Gimli, Man., duo and national coaches Scott Pfeifer and Viktor Kjell fell 8-5 to Scotland’s Team Katie McMillan/Angus Bryce on Tuesday evening at Centre Sportif Sous-Moulin. Earlier in the day, Canada defeated Hungary’s Team Dorottya Udvardi-Palancsa/Lorinc Tatar (2-4) 10-7.

With a 5-1 record, Canada is tied atop the standings with Italy’s Team Stefania Constantini/Amos Mosaner in one of the two 10-team pools. Scotland, Germany’s Team Kim Sutor/Sixten, and Switzerland’s Team Stefanie Berset/Philipp Hoesli each sit one game back at 4-2.

A pivotal three-point end by Scotland midway through the game handed the Canadians their first loss of the week. With the score tied at the break, McMillan executed a double takeout through a narrow port to score three, giving Scotland a lead it never relinquished.

“It’s just one of those ones you just never get a grasp of the ice,” Colton said. “You’ve got to throw it out the door and move on. We’re still five and one sitting in a very good position, and our own fate is ours to make.”

Canada used its power play in the sixth end to score two with a tapback. But in the seventh, Scotland countered with a runback for two on their own power play, extending their lead. Canada tried to generate a three-point end in the final frame but ran out of stones.

Scotland started the game with the hammer and scored two. Canada was forced to a single in the second, but returned the favour in the third by forcing Scotland to one. In the fourth, Canada picked up two to tie the game, with Colton threading a draw through a narrow port.

Team Lott will now have a new and relished experience heading into Wednesday’s game against Germany at 8 a.m. (all times Eastern)—an opportunity to bounce back from adversity.

“Sometimes a loss is good,” Kadriana said. “It makes you want to win the next three. We couldn’t get anything going out there, but we’ll let it go and come out stronger tomorrow.”

In the morning match against Hungary, Canada jumped out to an early three-point lead, but Hungary answered with four in the second end. Team Lott responded immediately, capitalizing on a Hungarian miss to score four in the third and take back a lead they would never surrender.

“It was a bit of a reset,” Colton said. “I missed my last one, which gave them the chance to take four in the second end. But we’re playing well and never doubted our ability to come back. We were only down one, put a bit more pressure on them, and sure enough, we got four right back.”

Canada stole a point in the fourth, but Hungary stayed close, scoring one on the power play in the fifth, then forcing Canada to a single in the sixth. Hungary added a deuce in the seventh with a runback, setting up a game-winning shot for Canada in the eighth. Kadriana executed a takeout that, despite conceding a steal of one, secured the victory for Canada.

“That was a good one to play,” Kadriana said. “We haven’t faced that situation all week—throwing the last shot under pressure and on a tight timeline. I’m happy we got the win, and it makes us more confident knowing we can deliver when it matters most.”

The round robin wraps up on Thursday. The top three teams from each pool advance to the playoffs: pool winners earn a bye to Friday’s semifinals, while second- and third-place teams cross over for qualification games earlier in the day.
