Man Utd are very interested in signing 25yo German star, £32m clause in contract
Manchester United have a strong interest in signing Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller ahead of Juventus this summer, according to Tuttosport.
Stiller has developed into one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga, and he has been touted to pursue a bigger challenge away from Stuttgart.
Tuttosport claim that Juventus are pushing to land the 25-year-old, and they are exploring a deal before the World Cup in North America this summer.
The Bianconeri feel a strong performance from the German star at the World Cup would further increase his stature and attract more high-profile interest.
However, they are set to face a major hurdle in the form of United.
The Red Devils currently have Sandro Tonali and Carlos Baleba at the top of their midfield shortlist, but there is also ‘strong interest’ in pursuing Stiller’s signature.
Stiller has a £32 million release clause in his contract, but Stuttgart can increase the value to £43-52 million by paying the player a £2 million penalty fee.
Stiller would be a fabulous signing for Man Utd
The 25-year-old has had another standout campaign with Stuttgart in Germany. He has completed an impressive 88 percent of his passes in the Bundesliga.
The holding midfielder has won almost 60 percent of his duels with five recoveries per outing. He has excelled at covering ground with a tireless work rate.
Stiller has also been a contributor in the final third. He has chipped in with two goals and 10 assists from 48 appearances for Stuttgart in all competitions this term.
The German has the traits to suit United’s playing style. The club should have the upper hand over Juventus if Stuttgart were to increase his buy-out clause.
United could still negotiate a long-term payment plan. They could propose a lower fixed fee upfront, with the remainder adjusted through performance-based bonuses.
Stiller is just entering the prime of his career, and could be one of two midfielders that United may sign as they seek to fill the void to be left by Casemiro’s departure.
