Benjamin Sesko unleashed: Five goals that brought Man United promise to life
Manchester United signed Benjamin Sesko in the summer of 2025 for an initial fee of £66.3 million from RB Leipzig.
Sesko was gradually eased into the starting XI, but still found himself unfairly and harshly criticised by sections of the media and pundits.
The 22-year-old has scored 11 goals this season, with 10 of them coming in the English top flight.
Here is a closer look at five of his standout goals from the campaign.
Debut strike vs Brentford
United suffered a dismal 3-1 defeat to the Bees in September last year with the referee making a couple of big errors.
The Red Devils were 2-0 down after terrible defensive work but Sesko reduced the deficit before the half hour mark.
He fired a header before hitting another subsequent shot but the goalkeeper made two fine reflex saves.
However, the ball fell kindly for him again, and he smashed it home to open his account in dramatic fashion.
It felt almost inevitable that he would score his first United goal that night.
Thumping match-winner vs Fulham
Late goals and Man United are a love story.
The Red Devils were cruising towards a comfortable victory before Fulham struck twice in the second half to make it 2-2.
It was an important game for Carrick as he had guided United to two statement victories against Manchester City and Arsenal previously.
He rolled the dice by sending Sesko on and the striker repaid the faith by scoring a 94th-minute winner.
He calmly controlled the ball before smashing it past the goalkeeper but the goal was created by the immense football intelligence of Bruno Fernandes.
Late equaliser at the London Stadium
Carrick was still unbeaten as the United head coach but that record was in danger after Tomas Soucek fired West Ham United ahead in the second half.
The Hammers sat deep to preserve their lead but it was Sesko who rose to the occasion and netted the all-important equaliser in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
It was a breathtaking moment from the Slovenian striker.
He attacked the near post and cleverly flicked home a low cross from Bryan Mbeumo from a tight angle.
Few elite strikers in world football can produce that kind of finish.
Hammer blow to Aston Villa
Aston Villa and United were locked in a fierce battle for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.
It was a big test of mentality for Sesko, who started on the bench once again for this clash.
He came on with United leading 2–1 and needed just six minutes to extend the advantage.
It was a classic poacher’s finish from the Slovenian forward.
After a fortunate ricochet in a crowded box, Sesko reacted quickest to the loose ball.
He spun sharply away from goal and unleashed a powerful strike, showing ruthless instinct in front of goal.
10th goal of the season
It felt almost destined that Sesko would score his 10th league goal against Brentford.
Fernandes led the charge on a counter-attack and had to choose between Sesko and Mbeumo for the final pass.
A subtle shift in body shape made Brentford believe the pass would go to Mbeumo, but the captain instead picked out Sesko.
The job was not done yet but Sesko showed commendable composure to convert.
He drifted inside to evade a sliding challenge from Nathan Collins before smashing a right-footed effort past goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.
Sesko became the first Man United player to hit the 10-goal milestone, ensuring that his critics are simply unaware of his quality.
