Around 100 Countries Call Iran Hormuz Attacks Blow to Global Economy
Nearly 100 countries condemn Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz, as Trump signals dissatisfaction with Tehran’s latest proposal.
Mike Waltz said representatives of nearly 100 countries at the United Nations have issued a joint statement condemning Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz, calling them a threat to the global economy.
The condemnation comes as Donald Trump is reported to be unhappy with Iran’s latest proposal to end the conflict and reopen the vital shipping route, according to U.S. officials.
The White House confirmed that Trump’s national security team is reviewing the proposal, which reportedly includes delaying nuclear talks, while stressing that Washington’s “red lines remain unchanged.”
Waltz said Gulf countries affected by recent incidents also joined the meeting, underscoring growing regional concern over maritime security and energy flows.
Iran has not yet responded to the joint statement or the criticism raised during the UN discussions. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical trade transit routes, with a significant share of global energy supplies passing through it, making any disruption a major international concern.
Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated in recent months, with repeated incidents raising fears of broader regional instability.
Diplomatic efforts have intensified through intermediaries, but key disagreements remain, particularly over Iran’s nuclear program and sequencing of negotiations.
Analysts warn that continued friction around Hormuz could impact global markets and increase pressure on international efforts to secure maritime stability.
