Josh Allen Wanted to Keep Removed Bone After Foot Surgery
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen underwent surgery on his right foot following his team's divisional round exit in the 2025 NFL playoffs.
Allen re-aggravated an existing foot injury when he took a sack against Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns in Week 16. He played through the injury for the rest of the year.
Allen broke the fifth metatarsal bone on his right foot, and the surgery he underwent was described as a clean up procedure.
When speaking with reporters on Monday, Allen revealed that doctors fully removed a portion of the bone that had chipped off his foot.
"A little piece of bone just kind of broke off and was floating there," Allen explained. "So they just went in, took it out — kind of like a small rock. They literally just cut it out, left it on the table and sewed it back up.
"Scar tissue will form around it. It feels really good right now. I don't feel like I have any limitations."
Allen later went on to say that he wanted to keep the piece of bone, but doctors had already thrown it away.
"Our head trainer, Nate Breske, was there and apparently they wrapped it up and threw it away as quickly as they could," Allen said. "I really wanted it... It may be floating out there. Who knows. Black market or something."

Allen should be fully healthy and ready to go when the Bills begin their 2026 NFL season in Week 1.
The Bills fired longtime head coach Sean McDermott after their overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round. Now, they're preparing for their first season under new head coach Joe Brady.
