Tottenham’s Xavi Simons recognised alongside Rayan Cherki, Virgil Van Dijk and Erling Haaland
Xavi Simons was the standout player for Tottenham Hotspur in the 2-2 draw with Brighton, even though he had the status of ‘match-winner’ snatched away.
Roberto De Zerbi has called on several of his Tottenham Hotspur players to stand up and act as leaders as his side continue their fight to avoid relegation.
That call looks to have sparked a reaction from his players, who put in one of their better performances since the turn of the year, as Spurs came close to beating an in-form Brighton side thanks to a strong display from several individuals.
Xavi Simons was at the heart of that performance, with the Dutchman grabbing a goal and an assist, and his display has now earned him recognition within the Premier League.
Tottenham’s Xavi Simons named in Premier League Team of the Weekend
Troy Deeney named Simons in his Premier League Team of the Week, a feat that has not been achieved since January 28 2026, when three Tottenham players were among the week’s top performers.
That surely points to performances improving, with five games left before the Premier League season ends and Spurs’ fate is decided.
Deeney, however, is not the only one to recognise Simons’ brilliance, with Ashley Williams also naming him in his Premier League Team of the Weekend.
The Dutchman joins other top performers, including Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, Morgan Gibbs-White, Bernardo Silva and Matheus Cunha in the pundit’s team of the weekend.
Spurs must build on Xavi Simons momentum in survival run
Spurs will now be aiming for consistency as they continue their fight to avoid dropping into the Championship.
Simons has had moments during the season where he has looked impressive, such as in the second-leg encounter against Atletico Madrid, but the issue has been failing to build on such performances.
As an individual, he has to maintain this level, while the team itself must build on their display against Brighton in their next clash against Wolves.
