10 Things to Know about the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup 2026
The second edition of the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup will open on 25 April in Sincelejo, Colombia. The nine-day event will run until 3 May and will feature 12 teams from around the world competing for the title.
The tournament showcases the best young talent in men’s softball, including players who are already part of senior national team programmes and are among the best in the world.
Here’s a quick guide to help you become an expert on the tournament:
1. This is the first WBSC Softball World Cup ever hosted by Colombia, with Sincelejo taking on this historic role.
2. A total of 12 teams will compete, divided into two groups. Argentina, Colombia, Czechia, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa make up Group A, while Australia, Canada, Denmark, Mexico, Singapore and Venezuela are in Group B.
3. Australia are the reigning world champions at this level, while superstar Jack Besgrove was named MVP in the inaugural edition.
4. The first edition of the tournament was held in Paraná, Argentina, in 2023, where Australia claimed gold, Japan silver and Argentina bronze.
5. The tournament features a 50-game schedule, starting with the Opening Round, followed by the Super Round and Placement Round, and concluding with the World Championship Final and Bronze Medal Game.
