Aston Villa’s signing could stay longer but a new transfer deal needed
Aston Villa’s signing on loan this season might stay longer at Villa Park, but they will need to renegotiate further with his parent club.
In the winter transfer window last January, Aston Villa secured two signings plus one player returning to the fold after his failed loan spell. Tammy Abraham rejoined Villa for a disclosed fee; Leon Bailey moved back to the Midlands after his loan to AS Roma, hampered with injuries almost instantly; and Douglas Luiz came back to Birmingham after leaving Villa Park just one year ago.
The Brazilian midfielder could be staying longer with the Lions as reported by Tutto Juve in Juvefc.com, but a new deal might be needed.
“Aston Villa will waive their option to buy the player and then try to negotiate new terms with Juventus since they are not willing to splash € 25 million on him.”
His current transfer deal
The 27-year-old midfielder is one of Aston Villa’s signings in January 2026 after his failed loan stint with Nottingham Forest in the first half of the season. Initially, Unai Emery’s side had agreed with Juventus for a loan with an option to buy him back for only £ 21.78 million next summer.
However, such a figure is seen as rather too high by Villa considering Luiz’s struggles in the past two seasons. The former Manchester City man has yet been able to secure his spot in Unai Emery’s starting line-up, despite being the star of the team there previously for five years.
The tricky part is La Vecchia Signora might have an objection to it, as they spent £43.55 million in summer 2024 to sign him. However, he has not been able to display his true quality with the Serie A giant, where he could not contribute a single goal or assist during his stay there. His current value is estimated at less than £26 million. His current contract still runs until 2029.
The possible solution would be a negotiation for another loan deal between both clubs, which might be more viable for Aston Villa. The new fee can be agreed upon for the option to buy in summer 2027.
His form since returning to Villa Park
Douglas Luiz attempts to revive his career with Villa, having been unable to impress the fans in Turin and Nottingham. This season, he has just made 14 appearances in all competitions with the Lions. The midfielder with 18 international caps has just contributed one goal and one assist.
Such is quite in contrast to his contribution during his first spell there. The Rio de Janeiro-born midfielder was the key figure in the team with 22 goals and 24 assists in 204 appearances before switching side to Juventus.
Based on the data in FotMob, the former Girona man is underway to bounce back to his golden days at Villa Park. His successful passes have reached up to 89.3 %. Luiz also excels at aerial duels, with a 60 % winning rate plus a 59.5 % successful rate on regular duels.
The Brazilian only needs more time to get back in his top form. He is definitely a great addition for Unai Emery’s side in the next season considering his experience and knowledge of the team inside out.
