Bud Light, Post Malone Make New Can Size Announcement
Bud Light is getting in on the move to alternate-sized beer servings with new smaller bottles and cans, and Post Malone is helping spread the word.
Soon you will be able to find 7-oz. Bottles and 7.5-oz. cans called Bud Light x Posty Co. Minis.
Smaller equals colder
Smaller servings of beer are nothing new, but they do seem to be having a moment.
Miller, Corona, Sierra Nevada and Rolling Rock already made or are rolling out smaller bottles and/or cans in a nod both to nostalgia and practicality.
Why is it practical? Isn’t it obvious?
Drinking seven or eight ounces of beer takes less time than downing 12, so it is more likely to be cold to the last drop.
And that makes sense for some beer styles more than others, something acknowledged by Sierra Nevada with its new Pils, a “premium craft lager” that comes in 8.4-oz. cans and is meant to mimic classic German beers.
Such serving sizes were once more common from many brewers, but one regional brand never stopped offering them.
Schoenling Brewery in Cincinnati started selling its Little Kings cream ale in 7-ounce bottles in the 1950s, but that was for a different (still practical) reason: Queen City drinkers enjoyed the cream ale as a sidecar for boilermakers, and that was a more convenient size.
Now produced by Cincinnati Beverage Company, Little Kings signature green bottles are still available in stores today in many parts of the country.
Bud Light joins the little beer party
Post Malone is helping Bud Light roll out its smaller cans and bottles with an ad campaign that includes a story in a tiny newspaper in North Carolina, a film called The Smallest Bar in the West and a pop-up party outside the Stagecoach music festival in Indio, Calif. That is set to run from April 23-25.
In a press release, Post Malone called the concept of smaller beers staying cold to the last drop “Genius.”
“It’s a simple thing: if the Bud Lights are mini, they stay cold longer for you and your buddies to enjoy,” he said.
This collaboration, which includes Post Malone’s Posty Co. branding on the Bud Light cans and bottles, continues a partnership between the singer and beer brand that already includes Super Bowl commercial, merchandise and a country concert.
If you can’t make it to Stagecoach, you don’t have to wait long to try the new smaller Bud Light bottles and cans. They are set to be available at all participating retailers May 4.
