How to watch Aston Villa v Bologna in the UK: kick-off time, live streaming and TV channels
Aston Villa are set to welcome Bologna again this season in the second leg of the Europa League quarterfinals in the midweek.
Aston Villa are going to meet Bologna once more for the third time this season alone and the fourth in the past two seasons. They are playing host to Vincenzo Italiano’s men in the second leg of the Europa League quarterfinals, which will be staged on Thursday.
Unai Emery’s men have a positive record in the encounter with Bologna. They have won in all previous three meetings without exception. The upcoming one is expectedly included. Their 3-1 win has given them the advantage ahead of their opposition side.
However, their last outing in the Premier League has given a slight warning that Villa could still stumble on their own home turf. They will not be able to field their number one shot-stopper, Emiliano Martinez, and the team is potentially running out of steam with a lack of rest for the regular players. The likes of Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers and John McGinn, plus Matty Cash and Ezri Konsa, might need longer rest to stay in form consistently.
Such concern has even been shared after the dismal result at the City Ground last weekend when the right-back Matty Cash. He expects his team to stay focused on the target and have no excuses for their exhaustion. Yet, it does not mean that such an issue does not exist. This is probably something Emery needs to resolve as he might have to consider rotating the squad.
On the other hand, Bologna seem to be more prepared to bounce back, as they did not start their key figures such as Jonathan Rowe, Tommaso Pobega and Federico Bernardeschi in their last fixture in Italian Serie A against Lecce. They managed to secure a 2-0 victory at home last weekend. Rossoblu are still confident they could turn things round in Villa Park.
The Lions need to get ready for such a threat and come up with a backup plan when their key men fail to perform well, just like what happened when they were held in a 1-1 draw.
