Headed into a summer full of uncertainty, the Chicago Bulls are sure of one thing: having two first-round selections in the upcoming draft. The Bulls finished the regular season with the ninth-best odds at the top pick, with the most likely draft slot being ninth or tenth overall. Not only will they add a premier player to an entirely gutted roster, but now they will also grab a second long-term investment to build around Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis. To give credit where it’s due, the Portland Trail Blazers shocked the NBA world this season. They were without Damian Lillard for the entire season, made several moves that indicated they, too, were in a rebuilding campaign, yet somehow defied the odds, earned their way into the NBA Play-In tournament, and beat the Phoenix Suns in a win-and-advance scenario. In doing so, they’ve qualified for the final 16 spots in the NBA playoff race, and their top-14 protected first-round pick owed to Chicago will now be in control of the new front office for the Bulls. Another possibility that this huge underdog story reveals is the potential to trade both picks to move up in the draft.

The open front-office positions in Chicago are truly a gamble for newcomers. The bright side? They’d lead one of the most historic franchises in the sport, have incredible faith from ownership, as evidenced by the seven-year leash given to Arturas Karnisovas and his team, and have a slew of draft capital alongside two All-Star potential players under the age of 24. The detterants? Michael Reinsdorf has stated that they wish to retain Billy Donovan, meaning the next regime will not get to hand-pick their coach, and Jerry Reinsdorf is infamous as one of the most lackluster owners in American professional sports.
