Jamie will take on the role of “Strider, the chief of the Northern Dúnedain Rangers. Accompanying Strider on the dangerous hunt, will be another of the Dúnedain, Halvard, played by Leo Woodall.”
Jamie is taking over the role, also known as Aragorn, who was previously played by Viggo Mortenson. Viggo was announced earlier this month to not be returning.
Jamie and Leo will join fellow newcomer to the franchise, Kate Winslett as Marigol.
Reprising their roles include Andy Serkis as Gollum and Smeagol, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Lee Pace as Thranduil and Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins.
“Across two trilogies, a mark of a Middle-earth film, has always been the formidable array of talent brought to bear in every role. The Hunt for Gollum continues in that tradition, and I am delighted to announce the return of two of Middle-earth’s most beloved performers, alongside some exceptionally talented new additions to Tolkien’s world,” Andy shared in a statement, via THR.
In addition starring, Andy Serkis is also directing.
If you didn’t know, The Hunt for Gollum “takes place between The Hobbit trilogy and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, with Aragorn and Gandalf searching for Gollum to learn more information about Bilbo’s ring — which turns out to be the One Ring that threatens all of Middle Earth during the events of Lord of the Rings.”
There’s another Lord of the Rings in the works with a big name attached to write!
