‘The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender’ Leaked Online, What’s Next for Paramount+?
Since Avatar: The Last Airbender debuted on Nickelodeon back in 2005, the animated world centered around superpowered beings has become incredibly popular with a loyal fandom. As one of the avid viewers, I’ve seen all of the episodes of the original series multiple times, I’ve watched every moment of the follow-up series, The Legend of Korra, and I’ve even ventured into Netflix’s live-action rendition of The Last Airbender story. So to say I was highly anticipating the premiere of Paramount+’s The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender animated movie is an understatement. However, I wasn’t expecting to watch the movie now but rather when it was scheduled to be released in October of this year.
The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender Arrives Six Months Early
Nickelodeon/Paramount+
Many fans of the Avatar universe were shocked to see that kicking off the week of April 12, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender had leaked online. The full movie has been posted to various accounts on X (formerly Twitter). Again, the film wasn’t expected to start streaming on Paramount+ until October, October 9 to be exact. We’re a whopping six months from its scheduled release date. Out of respect for the creators of the movie and Paramount+, a link won’t be posted here, but if you have an X account, you’re able to see for yourself.
What Is Paramount+’s Response to the Leak?
With all that being said, the questions still remain on how Paramount+ plans to handle the leak. Will the streamer decide to just release the film now on their official platform, since it’s all over social media? Or will Paramount+ opt to keep the October release date? After all, it's entirely possible that the movie was scheduled for more edits and tweaks, and the leaked version isn’t quite the final cut. (Although, from the glimpses I’ve seen, it’s a pretty solid body of work as is.) As of publication, Paramount+ hasn’t really responded to the incident, so there’s no telling what their future plans are at this time.
