With head coach sidelined, La Salle rallies to Class A title
TROY, NY (NEWS10) -- Two weeks ago, Section 2 ruled that the La Salle baseball team was in violation of a participation rule, not meeting the practice requirement before scrimmaging. Section 2 banned La Salle sports from postseason play next year, a decision the school is appealing. The baseball team was allowed to play in the postseason this year but without their head coach Ryan Ruddy, who was banned from coaching these playoffs.
The team might not be able to play in the playoffs next year, but they certainly made it count this postseason, knocking off Ichabod Crane in the Section 2 Class A championship game 4-2. "Phenomenal job by the boys," said assistant coach Mark Powell. "They've been through a lot all year and it's great to see them finally get one. We were here last year. We had a really tough loss to a great Albany Academy team. It was just great for them to come out on top tonight. Our guys, they worked really hard all year. This was mainly for our head coach, Ryan Ruddy. He couldn't be here with us here tonight, but he's done a tremendous job."
Michael Mann went 1-3 with two runs batted in. Cameron Mooney pitched a complete game, giving up just two runs.
