Gumballs and babies are in play for Squid Game's final season teaser
Nothing lasts forever. One day the game’s afoot, and the next it’s game over. Such is the case in the world of television, where the likes of Squid Game will soon shuffle off its mortal coil for an eternity in the Netflix carousel, inspiring “absolutely inhumane” game shows and an American remake. Such is the way of things.
But before it heads to the big algorithm in the sky, Squid Game has one last round. The show’s third and final season hits Netflix this June, and to celebrate, Netflix and the Pink Guards have a gift for viewers and players alike. Debuting today, the first teaser for season three opens with the guards entering the player dormitory with a pink coffin containing, you guessed it, none other than Player 456, Gi-hun! That’s the bell: The game has begun, and as players contemplate what horrors come affixed to a giant gumball machine, a baby cries in the distance. Babies can’t play Squid Game. Babies can’t play Squid Game! Unless a new spin-off, Squid Game Babies, is in the cards. We’ll have to tune in to find out.
Here’s the synopsis:
The third and final season follows Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) after losing his best friend in the game and being driven to utter despair by The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who was hiding his true identity to infiltrate the game. Gi-hun persists with his goal to put an end to the game, while the Front Man continues onto his next move and the surviving players’ choices will lead to graver consequences with each round. The world eagerly awaits to see the grand finale written and directed by Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who has vowed to bring the epic story to its deserved closure. Can we hope for humanity in the cruelest of realities? Fans all over the world are counting the days until the final answer is revealed.
Season 3 premieres on Netflix on June 27.
