All 71 ‘Star Trek’ Emmy submissions: ‘Discovery,’ ‘Strange New Worlds’ and ‘Lower Decks’ go for the gold
In some ways, it’s the end of an era for “Star Trek” at the Emmys. “Star Trek: Discovery” has ended after five seasons, and the animated series “Star Trek: Lower Decks” is set to conclude after its upcoming fifth season. But “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” carries the franchise’s legacy forward, and “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” is soon to come. But how many Emmy nominations and wins will this year’s three eligible shows rack up? Scroll down to see the list of 71 “Star Trek” submissions across its three series, excluding VFX races where “a panel comprised of voting members from the Special Visual Effects Peer Group will prescreen all submissions to determine the nominations,” as per the academy’s new rules.
“Star Trek’s” Emmy history stretches all the way back to the beginning, when the original series earned Best Drama bids in 1967 and 1968. “The Next Generation” premiered in 1987, but didn’t earn a Best Drama bid until 1994 for its final season; it did, however, rack up 19 Emmys in Creative Arts categories. “TNG” was the last Best Drama nominee from the “Star Trek” franchise, but artisans in the television academy have continued to acknowledge the series’ crafts. “Deep Space Nine” claimed four prizes during its run. “Voyager” collected seven. “Picard” prevailed once. “Discovery” has already taken two awards home. And “Strange New Worlds” got on the board with a nomination for its first season.
So there’s a good chance “Star Trek” will be on the list of nominees when they’re announced on July 17. But will it return to the race for Best Drama Series? After 30 years, it’s due.
