Caleb Williams Already Stepping Up as a Leader for the Bears
Just 24 hours ago, the Chicago Bears selected Caleb Williams with the top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Since then, he’s made headlines by breaking the NFL record for jersey and apparel sales. But that’s not all—he’s also quickly established himself as a leader in for the Bears. A recent report highlights an intriguing connection between Williams and the new Bears offensive tackle, Kiran Amegadije.
Amegadije, a Yale graduate and native of Hinsdale, Illinois was selected by the Bears in the third round with the 75th overall pick. He’s been a Bears fan since childhood and even had a encounter with Bears coach Matt Eberflus last year at a golf club his father attends. During their conversation, Amegadije declared that he would one day be drafted by the Bears, a statement that Eberflus remembered when the team called to announce his selection on Friday night.
What’s also interesting is the interaction between Williams and Amegadije on Friday evening. After the pick was made, Williams actually reached out to his new teammate, by getting his phone number and sending him a quick text.
You have to admire Caleb’s willingness to connect and build relationships with his fellow rookies. This should very easily dispel any notion of Williams being a bad teammate, as he’s already earning respect from veteran players and showing the awareness in getting to know his fellow draft mates.
