I’m British and you Americans don’t know how to do lawn stripes – the wrong kind of mower just doesn’t cut cleanly
A BRITISH lawn care fan has critiqued Americans for their lawn stripe techniques.
They felt Americans were using the wrong mowing equipment to cut their grass and it showed.

“You Americans don’t know stripes,” they said.
“Your lines are exactly that…wheel lines.”
A photo revealed their own lawn with freshly cut gradient stripes.
The controversial critique set off a battle of will and blades (of the grass variety, of course) in the comments section.
One American felt their technique was too time-consuming and only possible to do on a smaller lawn.
“Lol, imagine only having to mow 14 blades of grass,” they said.
Others agreed that they laughed their grass off at their photo.
“Imagine [having] to own a lawn mower for 14 blades of grass,” said one.
“Imagine only having to water 4 stripes. A wet dream,” agreed another.
“He could have used a pair of nail clippers!” joked a third.
Others agreed that the Redditor simply didn’t have enough stripes, lawn or otherwise.
“Four whole stripes? You need at least 13 to be worth a damn,” quipped one.
“I’m waiting until the off-season to put on a striping kit. But your lawn looks like a golf course,” said another.
Why you should stripe your lawn
There are many benefits to lawn striping, according to Home Depot’s blog.
On top of being visually appealing, the technique encourages lawn owners to reseed their lawns.
Dedicated lawn care fans who continually change up their lawn patterns help stimulate growth in their blades.
Lawn striping also keeps grass at the same height, which helps your entire lawn get an adequate amount of sunlight.
Less experienced lawn owners can also use their striped lawns as a guide when laying down new grass seeds or fertilizing.
“Got a bit of lawn coming out of your sidewalk,” joked a third.
“Hmm, it looks like lines in a baseball field. You know baseball? The all-American sport?” added a fourth.
The Redditor took the jokes in stride but doubled down in defense of themselves.
“This post has gone mad. All in good spirit,” they said.
“To all the people who are saying I’m using a stripping kit, I’m not.
“I have an Atco Clipper 17, and it’s a cylinder mower. Rotary mowers just don’t cut as cleanly.
“The bed to the left has now been leveled and seeded. Once it’s ready, I’ll share another picture of my fifth stripe,” they joked.
