Crawford Vs Madrimov headlines stacked August 3rd Riyadh Season show
Last week news broke of a planned August 3rd bout between WBA Light Middleweight champion Israil Madrimov (10-0-1, 7) and unbeaten American Terence Crawford (40-0, 31). Today that bout was confirmed, with a press conference that confirmed not just that bout, but also a stacked under-card in what might be the best US line up of bouts, this year. And a card that really proves boxing promoters in the west can work together, like they do in Japan where the Gym system forces promoters to work together, when enough money is in the pot for everyone to be happy.
The bout, which will take place at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, not only features the Crawford Vs Madrimov bout, which is Madrimov's first defense of the WBA title, but also several other world title bouts. Those include a bout between unbeaten Cuban sensation David Morrell (10-0, 9) and Radivoje Kalajdzic (29-2, 21), who are clashing for the vacant WBA Light Heavyweight title, and a potentially thrilling first defense of the WBA Light Welterweight title by Isaac Cruz (16-2-1, 18), as he takes on Jose Valenzuela (13-2, 9); there is also a potential FOTY contender pencilled in for the card, between Vergil Ortiz (20-0, 20) and Tim Tszyu (24-1, 17), if Ortiz gets by Thomas Dulorme later this month; and an intriguing match up for Cuban contender Andy Cruz (3-0, 1), who takes on veteran Antonio Moran (30-6-1, 21).
The card will also have a Heavyweight bout, as former Heavyweight world champion Andy Ruiz (35-2,22) takes on the controversial Jarrell Miller (26-1-1, 22), in what appears to be a must win for both men.
