CT man facing reckless driving charges after allegedly driving BMW over 120 mph on Route 8
A Connecticut man is facing reckless driving charges after state police allege he was driving over 120 mph on Route 8 in Naugatuck on Tuesday morning.
Around 9 a.m. Tuesday, the Connecticut State Police was conducting speed enforcement on Route 8 South in Naugatuck when a trooper allegedly observed a black BMW driving erratically at a high rate of speed. According to the trooper, the BMW was allegedly following vehicles “closely at an unsafe distance, passing on the right and making several unsafe lane changes which almost resulted in accidents.”
The trooper allegedly clocked the BMW traveling at 120 mph in a 55 mph zone, state police said. As the vehicle exited Route 8 South at Exit 24, the trooper was able to catch up and make a traffic stop on North Main Street in Beacon Falls, according to state police.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Jean Edgardo Rivera of Bristol, allegedly apologized to the trooper and stated that he does not normally speed, state police said.
Rivera was arrested and charged with reckless driving, following too closely, failure to maintain lane and passing on the right, according to state police. He was released on a $1,200 non-surety bond and schedule to appear at Derby Superior Counrt on May 13, state police said.
