‘I’m better’ Stacey Solomon brags as she makes subtle dig at Joe Swash’s DIY skills while helping couple transform home
STACEY Solomon has insisted that when it comes to all things DIY, she’s more skilled than hubby Joe Swash.
The Loose Women panellist, 34, made the subtle dig at Joe, 42, during tonight’s episode of her brand new series Renovation Rescue, which airs every Wednesday on Channel 4.
Stacey joked that she’s the DIY pro in her household[/caption] She helped one couple renovated their Devon pad[/caption]Renovation Rescue is Stacey’s latest TV venture and follows the home interiors fanatic as she helps Brits who have encountered bad builders.
Whether it’s bricklaying or basic plumbing, we will see the former X Factor star getting stuck into the projects herself too – and during the series, she’s also seen sharing the tips she picked up while renovating her idyllic £1.2million home, Pickle Cottage.
Tonight, the crafts enthusiast headed to Devon to help couple Darrel and Joe, who’ve done up three homes in the last three decades.
But although their previous renovation projects have been a great success, their dream home overlooking the coast soon turned into a nightmare.
Despite having a hefty budget of more than £120k for a professional builder, the work had been performed poorly – the roof was leaking, ceiling had come down and one point the two-floor property only had one wall left.
To make matters even worse, the duo, who share two children together, had more bad news waiting for them – Darrel was made redundant, whilst Joe had to be rushed to the hospital for a serious health scare.
”It was a challenging time, it was tough… It was tough,” the hubby could be seen crying on the show.
But although new workers had been arranged, the total spending had now reached almost an astronomical £300k, leaving them with just £30k.
Hearing the heartbreaking story, Stacey couldn’t wait to help the duo fulfill their dream, by sharing how they could finish the rest of the tasks themselves.
”They’ve not just taken away your money, they’ve not just taken away your dream home – they’ve taken away the time from your family that you will never get back.”
But as well as spending months helping the couple, with a few experts at hand too, Stacey was also working on her Pickle Cottage – where she had brand plans on diving their garage in half, so Joe’s ”smelly fishing gear” would be separate from her posh gym equipment.
But although this required a pair of extra hands, Stacey said that her hubby was ”not handy at all” when it comes to DIY.
”We might get some of his brute strength to carry some windows out,” the mum-of-five chuckled, explaining that even that was a ‘maybe’.
”It’s probably best that we keep the DIY projects just to one person – that person being me.
”Because I’m much better at it than Joe.”
Back in Devon, meanwhile, the project, which included a gorgeous kitchen makeover on the second floor, was also making progress.
The kitchen, for instance, featured a stylish mirror splashback and huge windows to reveal the stunning sea views in the background.
The dining area features more natural aspects and materials, such as a light wood, as well as a hand-painted wallpaper with stone-grey hues.
It’s not just the indoors that Stacey and the team had worked on – the garden, too, looked like a dream, boasting a chic outdoors pool.
”It’s so cosy and homely in here,” Stacey couldn’t believe the glow-up.
”Darrel and Joe have just been through drama after drama, after drama and I cannot wait for them to finally sit down in their home with a G&T and enjoy a view like this.”
Sharing the final results of the makeover on a gorgeous sunny day, the DIY whizz said: ”I’m so happy for you, guys. It’s incredible – I want to move in!
