Car SOS star Tim Shaw urges fans to pick up ‘forward-thinking’ modified classic that ‘gives him goosebumps to drive’
CAR SOS star Tim Shaw has recommended a “forward thinking” modified classic motor that was released over 30 years ago.
Tim said cruising in the specialist whip gave him “goosebumps” and preferred it to more modern speedy four-wheeled cruisers.
Tim Shaw tested the BMW E30 Alpina on an episode of Car SOS Uncut, sat in the driver’s seat while his co-star Fuzz Townshend was on the passenger side.
The petrol powered two-door Beemer was first released in 1983, and had additional models made up until 1990.
In the video, Fuzz said it’s a “late 1980s” model.
The classic motor comes equipped with a straight six C 2.7-litre engine and can hit an impressive top speed of 153 mph.
He said: “I’ve actually got goosebumps driving this car, it does not disappoint.
“They created an icon when they brought this car out, it feels like a modern one and I’m massively at home with it.
“There are things that BMW did with it that make it feel like being in the cockpit of a plane.”
Tim even spoke about his “favourite knobs” in the old-school motor.
He said: “The air conditioning, and the recirculation knobs both light up when you press them, and they’re so sexy.”
He went on to say that the car is “so specked up” and was especially impressed with the posh leather interior.
After claiming it’s a “wonderful car to drive” he said that the sound, smell and the way “you interact with it” is what “made” BMW.
While driving the old car – which he called an “absolute weapon” – he said he doesn’t care about modern speedy whips because it’s “not all about the speed”.
He said: “It’s about the sound, the feel, the way it just gets inside your head.”
His passenger and co-star Fuzz was equally as excited to be sat in the car, telling Shaw that it’s his “moment” to finally test it out.
He said: “Imagine taking a delivery of this in the late 1980s, you would have been on another planet.”
Tim finished off by saying the car is ‘beautiful” and “crammed” with technology.
He added: “It drives so well, its got unique BMW things that make you want to keep cruising.
“Honestly, I love this car, I’m at home and my bucket list is now complete.”
A SECOND RECOMMENDATION
It’s not the first time the show’s hosts have mentioned a particular car that’s worth copping.
Fuzz Townshend claimed one British classic could be making a comeback – and prices will skyrocket.
The motorhead suggested a particular make and model will feature on the next series of his show and said its “time is coming”.
In his expert opinion, he said car lovers should get their hands on a Triumph TR7.
THE motor was made by British manufacturer LeyLand and sales boomed in the 1970s – eventually becoming a legendary sports car right into the 1980s.
It hits a top speed of 114mph, and comes equipped with a 107 bhp engine, nicknamed the “Bullet”.
The popular motor was known for its wedge shape and later became available as a convertible.
