Board approves plan
for rebuilding home
The Planning Commission has approved an application to rebuild a home that was destroyed in a fire in January 2023.
The owners of 2 Palm Ave. sought a design review, variances and a floor-area ratio exception for the project. The proposal calls for a residence with a roof about 10 feet higher than before and about 700 square feet of additional floor area.
The commission held a hearing on the project on Tuesday and approved the plan with a modification to the roof pitch, said Elise Semonian, the city’s community development director.
SAN RAFAEL
Contractor chosen
for restriping project
The City Council is poised to hire a contractor for a pavement restriping project in the Canal neighborhood.
The city has already had resurfacing work performed in the area, according to a report by public works staffers.
“To help address limited parking in the area and improve the traffic safety of the neighborhood, the Canal Parking Striping Project will implement new striping in the Canal neighborhood, which include installing street parking spaces, as well as installing red and yellow curb areas,” the report said.
The city plans to award a contract of up to $257,000 to Bayside Stripe & Seal Inc. of Petaluma. The company submitted the lowest of three bids for the project.
The contract authorization is on the City Council’s consent calendar for its meeting on Tuesday.

Housing proposed at
commercial property
A developer wants to convert part of a downtown commercial building into housing.
The developer, Rhino One LLC, owns the building at 401 San Anselmo Ave., according to a report by Lindsey Klein, a town planner. The tenant is Bank of America.
“The project would convert part of the first floor and all of the second floor to residential uses and construct a third floor to include additional housing units with a roof deck above,” Klein wrote.
The company has submitted a preliminary concept to the town but no formal applications. The Planning Commission has scheduled a study session on the proposal for 7 p.m. Monday.
