French/Belgian bakery coming to Dutchess County
AMENIA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A new lactose-free French and Belgian-style bakery is coming to Dutchess County. Tarts and Bread is set to open two locations in Amenia and Rhinebeck.
Owners Kyle Raza, Chef Christophe Raza, and Chef Callyn Phillips are planning to open the bakery at 3304 Route 343 in Amenia on Saturday, April 27. The baked goods are not dairy-free, but they use lactose-free dairy to help with gut health.
"At Tarts and Bread, we believe that everyone deserves to enjoy the simple pleasure of freshly
baked goods," said Kyle Raza. "By offering lactose-free options, we're not only catering to those with dietary restrictions but also ensuring that our baked goods can be savored by all with zero effect on flavor."
All of the bread are made with sourdough starters, which are easier to digest. The menu includes artisanal breads, buns, and rolls, sweet and savory tarts, flaky Viennoiserie pastries, eclairs, quiches and sandwiches.
“In Europe, a visit to the local bakery is a regular part of life, and we are basing our pricing structure on that model," said Chef Christophe Raza. "A baguette shouldn’t cost $6. Ours costs $2.90."
To celebrate its grand opening in Amenia, Tarts and Bread will be offering a free Cinnamon Crun (a combination of a cinnamon roll and croissant) or Apricot Almond “8” (pastry in the shape of the number eight) to the first 200 customers. The bakery will be open 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on opening day.
Tarts and Bread in Amenia will then be open every day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The owners are planning on opening the second location at 6811 Route 9 in Rhinebeck in the summer months.
