Since then, her husband Ed’s gambling habit has reared its ugly head once more, leaving him in financial dire straits.
Once Aggie found out, she ended their marriage over the phone, but in upcoming scenes, Ed is given further news that leaves him devastated after heading to Birmingham to try and make amends.
On the Cobbles, the couple’s son Michael shows Dee-Dee a final demand which came through the post for Ed.
Dee-Dee is shocked to realise how much Ed still owes.
Ed then returns from Birmingham and breaks the news to Michael that Aggie has given him his marching orders and won’t be returning home.
Michael offers him a comforting hug and quickly slides the final demand letter out of sight.
Previously opening up about Ed’s past gambling issues, actor Trevor Michael Georges told Digital Spy: “The Baileys came to Coronation Street due to Ed bringing his whole family into crisis and almost lost everything due to his gambling addiction.
“When they moved to Corrie, they took everything that they had left and you can actually see that the furniture barely fits into their current house due to the size difference.
“This is a constant reminder to Ed that he used to be someone else… I don’t think that guilt will ever leave him.
“I feel this really emphasises the tragedy behind Ed getting sucked back into gambling because he truly thought he had conquered it.”
He continued: “A professional liar at this point is definitely the right term.
“I think with gamblers and most addicts, they are not aware of how brilliant an actor they are.
“Improvising on the spot isn’t something that most people can do easily… Whereas addicts are great at covering all of their sources and can think a way round of everything.”
In upcoming scenes, Ed returns from Birmingham where he visited Aggie and reveals to Michael she isn’t coming back[/caption]Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
