Girls club volleyball Dream Team: Moser, Haury, Reeder, Redd, Spencer, Young, Hoecke, Hopkins

Every Wednesday during the club season, VolleyballMag.com will recognize a Dream Team of eight girls volleyball players (15s to 18s age groups) who were standouts the weekend before.

Players are selected EXCLUSIVELY from nominations. To nominate, coaches will need to get on our bulk email list (info at bottom).

The team, most weeks, consists of the following:

Setter or S/RS
Setter, S/RS or RS
OH
OH
MB
MB
Libero
DS

We include our eight-player Dream Team below, as well as others we considered, based exclusively upon nominations received. This week, our team includes two setters, because no defensive specialists were nominated.

Note to coaches and directors: while there is no science to how we choose members of our Dream Team, performing on bigger stages will give players an edge, as will nomination forms that describe with specificity how well a player performed the previous weekend.

McKinley Moser

VolleyballMag DREAM TEAM for March 27:

S: McKinley Moser, 5-9 Fr., VC Nebraska 15 Elite (NE) – Moser led VCN to third place in 15 Open at MEQ, the first time in club history that a team has qualified in Open for Junior Nationals. Over 18 sets, Moser compiled 174 assists and helped her team hit .207 for the weekend. She added 30 kills of her own on .718 hitting, 56 digs and 13 aces. “She iss our leader and what makes our team go,” said coach Blake Rawlins.

S: Alexis Haury, 5-10 Sr., NPJ 18 Forefront (OR) – For the second straight year, NPJ ran through the 18 Open division at PNQ undefeated. For the second straight year, Haury was the setter. The Washington signee set a team that averaged almost 15 kills per set in Spokane, a truly dominating performance. “She always stands out and makes her teammates better,” said coach Adam Ellis.

RS: Hayden Reeder, 6-0 Soph., MN Select 16-1 (MN) – Reeder had been playing an OH/DS role for Select until the Northern Lights qualifier, where she took over as a six-rotation right side. She finished third on the team in kills and digs for the weekend, helping her team qualify in Open for Junior Nationals. “She is a gamer and brings the drive and intensity that helps create our winning culture,” said coach Drew Rongere.

Hayden Reeder

OH: Jayda Redd, 5-9 Sr., Top Select 18 Elite (FL) – Redd helped Top Select qualify in 18 Open at Music City. She’s a consistently good passer, was a prolific attacker at times over the weekend and a dominant blocker for her height.

OH: Ryan Spencer, 6-0 Fr., Dallas Skyline 15 Royal (TX) – Skyline qualified in Open at MEQ behind the great work from Spencer, who hit .325 for the weekend. She scored all along the net and delivered time and again from the back row.

MB: Kinsley Young, 6-4 Soph., TAV 16 Black (TX) – Young hit .460 on Sunday with many timely blocks to help TAV prevail in the 16 Open division at Northern Lights. “She was a steady force for us at the net all weekend and was as active as she’s been all year in transition and tracking the opposing hitters,” said coach Paul Baxter.

Elena Hoecke

MB: Elena Hoecke, 6-3 Soph., MN Select 16-1 (MN) – One of the top middles in the country in her class, Hoecke played to her reputation this weekend in helping MN Select secure an Open bid at the Northern Lights qualifier. “She dominated across the next both attacking and blocking,” said coach Drew Rongere. “She was second on the team in aces and kills, and led the team in blocks. She was one of only a few middles who ran a variety of attack patterns and was able to terminate the ball at will. She was our go to hitter when we were in system.”

Gemma Hopkins

Libero: Gemma Hopkins, 5-4 Fr., Houston Juniors 16 Elite (TX) – Hopkins had 96 digs and eight aces on the weekend as HJV qualified in 16 Open at Northern Lights. She passed a 2.1. “She played incredible defense and was a true leader on the court,” said assistant coach John Turner. “Gemma is a fierce competitor who plays like a veteran libero on the court even though she is 15 years old. She’s playing up an age group without any fear or hesitation. Her teammates have embraced her as a true warrior on the court!”

Also considered (by position, in order of consideration):
S: Allison Maddock, 5-6 Soph., Infinity 16 Ren (MS) – Maddock has helped lead her team to win two consecutive tournaments. This past weekend, at Bama Beast in Birmingham, her team finished first place in the Gold Bracket for the 16 Club division. Maddock received the MVB (Most Valuable Beast) for her division. “Being the only setter on our team and playing 6-7 matches a tournament, she continues to amaze me with her ability, confidence, and positive attitude to get the job done,” said coach Taylor Mraz. “She may be quiet but she has a big presence on this team and we are extremely lucky to have her.”

S: Ellery DeBoer, 5-11 Fr., MN Select 16-1 (MN) – DeBoer is one of the top setters nationally in her class. Playing up a year, she helped Select qualify in 16 Open at Northern Lights by running a phenomenal offense and being an offensive threat herself.

S: Marissa Jones, 6-1 Fr., A5 15 Kelly (GA) – Jones set A5 to an Open bid at MEQ this past weekend. One of the top players nationally in her class, and perhaps the best setter in a generation, Jones is always good, but she was especially sharp in pacing one-loss A5 this weekend. Not only did she set with style and efficiency, she was impressive digging in the back row and had some eyebrow-raising kills of her own.

S: Isabelle Bardin, 6-3 Jr., Metro 17 Travel (D.C.) – Bardin had 91 assists over five matches to help 17 Travel secure the National bid at the Chesapeake Region bid tournament on Saturday.

***

OH: Ashtyn Sims, 6-0 Sr., OVA 18 Black (FL) – Sims stepped up in a huge way to help OVA qualify in Open at Music City. “She played lights out,” said coach Jen Darty. “I am so proud of what she is doing for us on the court and the growth that I’ve seen from her.”

OH: Delaney Volkmer, 5-10 Fr., VC Nebraska 15 Black (NE) – Volkmer led her team in kills and helped carry 15 Black to a second-place finish in the 15 Liberty division at MEQ and the bid to Junior Nationals that came with it.

***

Libero: Sidney Burley, 5-9 Soph., MN Select 16-1 (MN) – Burley led Select in digs and aces over the weekend at Northern Lights. Select finished second in 16 Open to qualify for Junior Nationals. “She is a huge presence in the back row and covers a lot of court for us,” said coach Drew Rongere. “Sidney has vision and a high IQ that allows her to read hitter’s tendencies and shots easily. She is disciplined with her movement and is always in a position to dig the ball. She was a big reason for our success at the NLQ. She refused to let the ball hit the floor and came up with some massive key digs for us.”

Libero: Julia Bohlinger, 5-11 Sr., NORCO 18 Black (CO) – Bohlinger, a North Carolina signee, had a great weekend for NORCO, which qualified with a third-place finish in 18 Open in Spokane. “She really played some of the best volleyball passing and defending I have seen from her,” said coach Kyle Cox.
