8:00 p.m. — “Previously on ‘The Masked Singer’!” In Episode 3, Poodle Moth, Clock, Spaghetti & Meatballs and Lizard each took the stage for the first time. Following the studio audience vote, Spaghetti & Meatballs and Lizard landed in the bottom two, but it was Spaghetti & Meatballs forced to unmask and reveal himself as restaurateur and “MasterChef” judge Joe Bastianich! Who will be unmasked tonight?
8:05 p.m. — The first Group C contestant to return is Clock. In her clue package she reveals, “I had the time of my life singing on ‘Billy Joel Night.’ And I’m making every second count on this stage. In my life I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs. Just like any good TV series, I’ve laughed and I’ve cried. And thank goodness, I’ve always been renewed. But I think it’s my positive outlook that’s carried me season to season. When I was broke I appreciated the free things in life. When my car didn’t start, what a beautiful day for a walk! And even though my marriages didn’t work out, something great came from those relationships — my beautiful children. I’ve learned there will always be good times and bad. And now, let’s keep the good times rolling all the way to the Group C finale!” Visual clues included a news headline that read, “Clock Renewed! It’s Always Her Time to Shine,” a map of the Mississippi River Trail, a motor and a photo of Clock with her two children (a boy and a girl).
8:10 p.m. — Clock is singing “Good Times” from the TV show “Good Times.” She’s injecting much more gospel flare into this than we heard last week. This is a seasoned diva! Here to present an extra clue is Jill Whelen from “The Love Boat.” It’s a ship, of course, and Clock says, “Love and boat. Two things that combine to make a hit! Something I know first-hand.” The panelists think Clock could be Stephanie Mills (Robin), Debbie Allen (Jenny) or Janet Jackson (oh, Ken).
8:15 p.m. — Poodle Moth is next and in her clue package she reveals, “I was pretty scared to do that last performance. It’s not always easy to put myself out there. In my life I was raised to know one thing — sometimes the ones you love leave, without so much as a letter. My dad left a hole in my heart that I never have filled. I’d send him letters that were always returned to sender, with each return stamp breaking my heart. If that one person whose only job is to love you won’t, then who will? Until one day I decided to write a letter to myself. I needed to realize that I was capable of being loved the way that I deserved. I’d learn to use my talents to help other kids who are looking for their answers, just like I was. I’m writing my own story and tonight I’ve chosen a TV theme song that reminds me of the beauty of what’s still to come — because there’s still so much unwritten.” Visual clues included cats on an envelope and stamp, theater masks and fireflies.
8:20 p.m. — Poodle Moth is singing “Unwritten,” the theme song from “The Hills.” This winged beauty performs with confidence and sounds like someone who is no stranger to music. Bringing out an additional clue are two stars from “The Hills,” Heidi and Spencer Pratt. They introduce a choir singing “Where You Lead” from “The Gilmore Girls,” to which Poodle Moth responds, “I have a very special connection to ‘Gilmore Girls’ that hits very close to home.” The panelists guess Poodle Moth could be Melissa McCarthy (Ken), Lauren Graham (Jenny) or Connie Britton (Robin).
8:30 p.m. — Third up tonight is Lizard. In his clue package he reveals, “I really turned it up last time and that smackdown got my heart racing. Now being here on ‘TV Theme Night’ is taking me back to my beginning. As a little lizard I loved cartoons so much that I spent all my days drawing them. I got so good I was offered a dream job at a huge animation studio. Yeah, the mouse was chasing this lizard pretty hard. It was a great opportunity and my dad begged me to take it, but deep down I knew I wanted to be a performer. So I put down my pencil and took the riskier road to stardom and my dad was shook. That lit the fire to prove to him that I could pull it off. And when I eventually became one of the most recognizable reptiles on the planet, he was so proud. Now I might not draw animations, but I sure do draw in the crowds. And tonight I’m singing a song from a cartoon classic. Let’s Scooby-Doo this thing!” Visual clues included Lizard looking at a wall of clocks, a photo of a lizard with a mustache, a lizard doll and cowboy boots.
8:35 p.m. — Lizard is singing the title song from “Scooby-Doo, Where are You?” This reptile has a soulful tone, smooth moves and really knows how to put on a show. This has to be a famous singer, right? Robin whispers, “I do,” when Jenny mentions to him, “I feel like you would know that voice.” For an additional clue a real canine walks out and Lizard says, “A dog actually helped me reach an even bigger audience.” This leads the panelists to guess Lizard is Michael Bivins (Ken), Ray J (Jenny) or Sisqo (Rita and Robin).
8:40 p.m. — The season’s first wildcard has been released — and it’s Sir Lion. The majestic beast reveals in his clue package, “Every good night of television deserves a twist, so what better role for me to play than the wildcard. Like the king of the jungle, I come from a well-known pride, but never took it for granted. I jumped through hoops to become a ringleader in Hollywood, rubbing elbows with everyone from Tom Cruise to Tom Hanks, but in show business, the higher you climb, the harder you fall. Luckily, lions are fierce and I’ve landed on my feet no matter what this town throws my way. In Hollywood, success and struggle go together like a horse and carriage. Now get ready to fall in love with this lion.” Visual clues included a radio, ticket stubs, an anchor, a photo of Jerry Seinfeld on a hot air balloon, a photo of Rockefeller Plaza and a cannon.
8:45 p.m. — Sir Lion is singing “Love and Marriage,” the theme song to “Married…With Children.” He’s not a bad singer, but Sir Lion certainly doesn’t sound like a pro. I’d say he’s easily the weakest of the night. For an additional clue, a dinosaur from “The Flintstones” brings out a bone that says “Co-Star.” Sir Lion then says, “I wasn’t in the cartoon, but I’ve co-starred on a different TV show with Betty Rubble.” Betty was played by Rosie O’Donnell in the movie. The panelists guess Sir Lion could be Anderson Cooper (Robin), Ryan Seacrest (Ken) or Andy Cohen (Rita).
8:50 p.m. — The votes have been cast and the bottom two facing off in tonight’s smackdown are Lizard and Sir Lion. Poodle Moth and Clock are safe once again. In this smackdown Lizard and Sir Lion both put their own spin on “Who Are You,” the theme song from “The Masked Singer.” Both sound good, but I’d give the edge to Lizard.
8:55 p.m. — Lizard and Sir Lion hug it out, but it’s time for one of them to go home. Nick announces the winner of this smackdown is Lizard!
9:02 p.m. — Before Lizard unmasks the panelists reveal their final guesses for who is hiding behind the mask: Anderson Cooper (Robin), Ryan Seacrest (Ken), Andy Cohen (Rita) or Seth Meyers (Jenny). Finally, it’s time for Sir Lion to “take it off!” When he pulls off his regal mask, Sir Lion proves all the panelists wrong. He is in fact radio and TV entertainment host Billy Bush! Next week things get steamy for the Group C finals, “Shower Anthems Night.”
