Every Oscar-winning performance directed by Clint Eastwood [PHOTOS]
In 2005, Clint Eastwood and Martin Scorsese simultaneously became the latest entrants on a list of eight directors of five or more Oscar-winning performances, following an example set by William Wyler in 1943. Among Eastwood’s related achievements are directing himself to two acting notices and seeing a single actor (Morgan Freeman) to both supporting (“Million Dollar Baby”) and lead (“Invictus”) nominations. Check out our complete photo gallery of Oscar-winning turns in Eastwood films, which also includes a rundown of the unsuccessful nominees directed by him.
Since 1971, Eastwood has directed 39 narrative feature films, 16 of which earned a collective total of 47 Oscar nominations and 13 wins. At this point in his career, he has personally been recognized 11 times across three categories, winning Best Picture and Director for both “Unforgiven” (1993) and “Million Dollar Baby” (2005). He was also honored with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1995.
The performances included in this gallery are listed in chronological order, with each actor’s additional Oscar nominations (as well as the directors of those films) noted. Also listed are any other collaborations between Eastwood and these performers that did not result in acting bids.
