Apple leases big Sunnyvale building as tech titan widens footprint
SUNNYVALE — Apple has leased a big office building in Sunnyvale, a rental deal that hints at a widening of the tech titan’s Bay Area footprint.
The iPhone maker rented an office building at the corner of West Maude Avenue and North Pastoria Avenue, according to a public document on file with Santa Clara County officials.
Cupertino-based Apple’s rental deal in the large Sunnyvale office building is a strong indicator that the tech giant continues to expand and solidify its long-term presence in Silicon Valley. Besides a huge presence in its hometown of Cupertino, Apple also occupies numerous buildings in Sunnyvale, leases space in Santa Clara and owns buildings and empty land that could be the site of a big tech campus in north San Jose.
The building that Apple has leased is located at 605 West Maude Avenue in Sunnyvale, the county records show.
The office building totals about 150,000 square feet and is part of a three-building campus that’s owned by Kilroy Realty.
Apple is undertaking interior and other improvements at the office building that the company has just leased, according to the public documents that Kilroy Realty has filed.
The filing didn’t indicate when Apple would occupy the site.
LinkedIn had previously leased the 605 West Maude offices but subsequently exited the building.
In separate efforts, Mountain View-based LinkedIn is offering to sublease multiple buildings in Sunnyvale, according to commercial property experts who are familiar with the real estate plans of the career-oriented social network.
Apple already occupies two office buildings next to the West Maude property that the company has leased.
The other adjacent buildings that Apple is also leasing are at 505 North Mathilda Avenue and 555 North Mathilda Avenue, which also are owned by Kilroy Realty.
The other two buildings each total about 212,300 square feet. This means that Apple is leasing a combined 574,600 square feet of office space within the Kilroy Realty-owned tech campus.
The 15-acre campus also includes a parking structure, according to a post on the Kilroy Realty website.
“An amenity building that includes a fitness center, cafeteria, cafe areas, and outdoor seating in a large courtyard” is also part of the tech campus, the Kilroy website states.
