‘Without injuries’ – Hugo Lloris looks ahead to second half of season with Spurs
With the domestic season now paused and the 2022 World Cup a little under a week away, Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris has been looking ahead to the second half of the campaign and the challenges that await his side.
It’s been a relatively successful first half of the season for Spurs, who go into the international break in fourth place in the Premier League and having qualified for the knockout stages of this year’s Champions League.

Some poor performances and the fact Spurs crashed out of the Carabao Cup in the third round have tarnished what was the best-ever start to a Premier League campaign for the North London club after ten games (BBC).
Things ended on a high note at the weekend though, with Spurs taking all three points in their final game before the break in a thrilling 4-3 win over Leeds United on Saturday.
Now, with many players in Qatar preparing for the start of the tournament, Hugo Lloris has been speaking to Football.London about what he expects from Spurs when he gets back from international duty.
He said: “It’s difficult to predict what is going to happen but obviously we are looking on our side for Tottenham and many players are involved for the World Cup.
“Hopefully, they will come back safe without injuries and we will continue in our way in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.”
“It’s not easy for every team with international players involved in the World Cup, for example when you see Leeds and Tottenham, there was more to lose for some Spurs players than Leeds players, but we found the mentality to come back three times and win with the fourth goal.”
Despite the nerve-wracking nature of the game, Lloris took a lot of positives from the performance, stating: “It was incredible, to be honest, but shows the character of the team.”

Just like last season, it’s hoped Spurs can press on and take things to the next level in the second half of the season this year. It should be easier to focus and manage games with the World Cup out of the way, meaning no distractions and no looming pause in the schedule.
