Mother-in-law has visited us every day for the past eight months
DEAR DEIDRE: MY mother-in-law has come to our house every day since her husband died eight months ago.
She doesn’t want to talk, she just sits and eats dinner.
I’ve tried to chat but she just gives one-word answers.
She’s always inviting herself around so I don’t get any quality time with my wife and three-year-old daughter.
She’s even said she wants to come on holiday with us.
I am 41 and my wife is 38. We are exhausted with work.
She’s 72 but doesn’t help out and our life revolves around her – most days she is here for hours.
It’s so draining and I am feeling so stressed.

It’s tearing us apart with lack of sleep and arguing.
I know she’s hurting but I can’t help her if she won’t communicate.
