[Men's Soccer] Men's Soccer Falcons outlast Bethel to stay perfect in conference play
North Newton, Kan. – The Friends University Men's Soccer Falcons knocked off the Bethel College Threshers 3-2 in KCAC action today (Sept. 24) in North Newton, Kan. The Falcons have now won their first three conference matches for the first time since the 2017 campaign.
The action got off to a furious start offensively, with three goals scored within the game's first 10 minutes.
Bethel got on the board first on a goal by Cristobal Goldberg, but Sora Shibata (FR/Tokyo, Japan), the current KCAC Offensive Player of the Week, quickly answered for the Falcons less than a minute later off an assist from Guilherme Oliveira (JR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) at the 4:33 mark.
Jose Lapentty (SO/Heredia, Costa Rica) then put the Falcons on top in the 10th minute on a feed from Carlos Vidrio (SO/Guadalajara, Mexico).
The offensive fireworks slowed a bit for the remainder of the first half until Adalsteinn Kristinsson pulled the Threshers even at the 59:11 mark.
But once again the Falcons wasted little time responding, as the program's modern-era goals leader Juan Zamora (SR/LaBelle, Florida) produced the eventual game-winning score just 1:15 later.
For the second straight outing, the Falcons made the most of their scoring opportunities, putting in three goals off their four shots-on-goal.
The Threshers outshot the Falcons 11-9 overall, with a 5-4 edge on goal.
Adrian Losa (SO/Spring, Texas) recorded three saves in the net for Friends, while Gustavo Infante was credited with one save for Bethel.
Next up, the Falcons will return home and host Bethany College Wednesday evening (Sept. 28), with kickoff set for 6 pm at Adair-Austin Stadium.
