San Mateo County: Man arrested on suspicion of attacking woman he was dating
A man was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly attacking his girlfriend — beating her with a belt and attempting to rape and strangle her, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded around 1:30 a.m. to a report of a physical altercation at a home on the 400 block of 4th Avenue in an unincorporated area of the county. They found a woman with injuries to her neck, and eventually located the suspect in the area.
Both told deputies at the scene that they were in a dating relationship with each other, authorities said.
The man, a 35-year-old Redwood City resident, had allegedly used his hands to hit the woman’s head and beat her with a belt. At some point, authorities said, he attempted to rape the woman; he also climbed on top of the victim in an attempt to strangle her.
The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, attempted rape and domestic violence. Authorities did not offer information about the woman’s medical condition.
