DEAR DEIDRE: MY ex isn’t allowed near me or our children after he regularly hurt me and even hit my youngest, who is four, hard across the face.
I’m 32 and he’s 33. When he whacked our son I knew I had to get out and that is what I did, along with our six-year-old daughter.
But it hasn’t been easy. He texts me the whole time asking to see his children.
It wasn’t always bad and the first few years were sometimes really good. I still love him and the children miss him.
It really is breaking my heart and I’m trying to do the best for everyone but I’m also feeling so low.
I realise he shouldn’t even be messaging me but I can’t bring myself to block him.

DEIDRE SAYS: The way you’re feeling is completely natural. You’ve come out of a very abusive relationship and it will take time to heal from this.
I can see you have very low self-esteem, but you will start to feel stronger if you can work on this.
It’s natural too that your kids are missing their dad and don’t understand why they can’t see him. Try to be strong and show them how much you love them.
