Man shot and killed in Vallejo by Solano County deputies on Sunday night
A man allegedly armed with a knife was shot and killed by a Solano County Sheriff’s Office deputon on Sunday night near downtown Vallejo.
According to the Sheriff’s office, just before 7 p.m. Solano County deputies received a call to assist the Vallejo Police Department with a traffic accident that had occurred earlier in the day. Shortly after deputies arrived, witnesses alleged that at least six rounds were fired at the person, who had left his vehicle after the crash. Major Crimes Task Force soon took over the scene on Pennsylvania and Sutter streets.
According to Solano NewsNet, one witness said that the man leaving his vehicle appeared agitated after the crash and was running in and out of traffic while holding a knife. At times, he used the knife to cut himself, the eyewitness said.
A video shows the man trying to flee the scene from police at a gas station. According to Solano NewsNet, a witness said she saw the man reportedly lunge at officers while still holding the knife.
The man was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, but later died from his injuries according to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office. The man’s identity has not been released.
At approximately 2:35 a.m. on Monday morning the Solano County Sheriff’s Office announced that evidence collection at the scene had been concluded and that Pennsylvania and Sutter streets were once again opened.
The Solano County Major Crimes Task Force is conducting the investigation per county protocol. On Monday morning the organization announced that all inquiries would be handled by the Solano County District Attorney’s Office.
