“Cats,” Patti responded. “Cats. I mean, that’s one of them and Phantom [of the Opera]. I think there should be a time limit on Broadway shows. I think there should be term limits on senators, on judges and Broadway musicals.”
Patti thinks that shows should only be allowed to play for up to 10 years to allow for other shows to use the limited amount of theatres. She believes that Wicked will one day surpass The Phantom of the Opera as the longest-running show on Broadway.
Patti was also asked if she’d rather see Bette Midler or Barbra Streisand in Hello Dolly. For those who don’t know, Bette played Dolly on Broadway at the age of 71 while Barbra starred in the film at the age of 26.
“Neither,” she said. “Barbra Streisand was too young and Carol Channing should have played it. And I actually loved Bette when I saw her on Broadway. I loved it. She carries her own light. But she’s done it.”
