Historic: Boston Red Sox add Katie Krall to organization's coaching staff

<p>The Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB) have hired Katie Krall as a development coach for their Double-A affiliate Portland. This makes the Red Sox the first MLB franchise to hire two female coaches. <p>A 2018 Northwestern University graduate, Krall started her coaching career as a student when she became a student promotions coordinator for the Wildcats' baseball programme. </p>

<p>She served as an assistant general manager of the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the Cape Cod Baseball League.</p>

<p>From January 2020 to October 2021, Krall worked for the Cincinnati Reds as a baseball operations analyst. Before joining the Red Sox, she spent two months in Google's global strategy department.</p>

<p>She is currently pursuing her Master in Business Administration from the University of Chicago.</p>

<p>"I definitely think that at a point we will get to a place where women will just be hired," <strong>Krall </strong>said to the Masslive.com website. "It won't necessarily result in a Zoom call with reporters. I think that would be phenomenal. That's the ultimate goal that it doesn't become newsworthy anymore."</p>

<p>Earlier this year, the New York Yankees named Rachel Balkovec their Low-A manager, thus making her the first woman with a manager's job in Minor League Baseball.</p>
