Report: Alasdair Gold provides January update on Spurs-linked Vlahovic
Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur target Dusan Vlahovic is reluctant to leave Fiorentina during the January transfer window.
The speculation linking Spurs with a move for Vlahovic has gone into hyperdrive since Antonio Conte’s arrival at Tottenham last month.
According to some reports (Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness), Conte made it clear as soon as he arrived at Tottenham that he wants the club to prioritise a move for the Serbian international.
The North London club are thought to be facing competition from the likes of Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester City for the 21-year-old’s signature.
The Times have claimed that Fiorentina want £77m for the 21-year-old in January and that the centre-forward is looking for a substantial pay rise, demanding wages of around £200k per week before tax.
Gold has now suggested that Spurs are unlikely to meet the Viola’s asking price for the centre-forward in January and added that they are likely to face plenty of competition for the striker in the summer.
When asked about Tottenham’s pursuit of Vlahvoic in a Q&A on Football.London, the journalist responded: “The problem, as always, is money.
“Vlahovic, even with 18 months left on his contract, is worth a lot of money and that price tag is only going in the wrong direction for Spurs with his incredible form again this season for Fiorentina (18 goals in 22 matches).
“There appears to be a reluctance from him to leave the Italian side next month halfway through the season and when the 21-year-old eventually does move on there will be plenty of competition for one of the best strikers in Europe at the moment, regardless of his age.
“I just wonder whether Spurs missed their chance in the summer and that’s when they should have gone all out for Vlahovic.”

I just do not see how some Spurs fans seem to expect the club to pay big money for Vlahvoic, now that it appears Kane is set to stay.
I suspect the Serbian (as well as Lautaro Martinez) were only on Tottenham’s radar in the summer owing to fears of losing Kane to City.
I cannot see us spending £70m-plus on a striker in January when other areas of the squad are in more urgent need of reinforcements.
