[Men's Basketball] Becker and O'Campo Shine in Loss to Benedictine
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The San Diego Christian College Hawks fell 76-79 in a hard-fought game to the Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks Thursday evening in the Master's University New Year's Classic.
The Hawks rode the hot shooting of Josh O'Campo and Kyle Ruiz in the first half. O'Campo's 4-for-5 tally in the opening half included a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range. Ruiz added an additional two treys to give the Hawks an eight-point halftime advantage.
SDCC began the second half a bit flat and the Redhawks were able to rattle off a 12-2 run to erase the lead. Benedictine remained hot and ran their lead to 9 points with just over nine minutes to play.
The Hawk's Bryson Becker became the hot hand and would put in 12 of his team-leading 25 points in the final nine minutes to pull San Diego Christian to within one point with 27 seconds remaining. After intentionally sending the Redhawks to the free-throw line, SDCC gave themselves one final chance to send the game to OT, but unfortunately, the comeback came up just short.
