[Women's Basketball] Women's Basketball Falcons tripped up in exhibition with Mountain Lions
Pueblo, Colo. – The Friends University Falcons jumped out to an early lead, but the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions rebounded and won 68-54 in an exhibition bout today (Nov. 26) for the Falcons in Pueblo, Colo.
Down 11-9 with 2:35 left in the opening quarter, a three-point play by Bridget Busbee (JR/Grand Prairie, Texas) and four consecutive points from Carrie Lacy (JR/Victoria, Texas) keyed an 8-0 run to end the period and put the Falcons up six.
After a layup by Taylor Jackson (FR/Houston, Texas) and a trey from Aaliyah Myles (JR/Grand Prairie, Texas) expanded the Falcon lead to nine at 22-13, the Mountain Lions took control behind nine points from Jessica Nation to outscore the Falcons 19-2 during the final 6:41 of the first half to jump ahead 32-24 at the break.
The Falcons fought back to start the third quarter as a pair of layups from both Lacy and Alexa Chairs (SR/St. Charles, Mo.) fueled an 11-2 burst that put Friends back in front by one at the 6:08 mark.
It was still a one-point edge for the Falcons when Nation hit another three to give the Mountain Lions the lead once again.
An inside score from Jackson tied the game, but layups by Nation and Jasmine Jeffcoat helped the Mountain Lions take a 47-44 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
The Mountain Lions then created further separation with seven straight points to begin the final stanza and take their first double-digit lead with 7:47 left.
That cushion stood up for the Mountain Lions, as they led by at least six the rest of the way and the final 14-point margin equaled their largest lead of the game.
Lacy led the Falcons with 12 points and Jackson pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Nation paced the Mountain Lions with 16 points, while Jeffcoat and Ellie Moore each chipped in with 12 points. Agar Farres recorded a game-high 13 boards for the Mountain Lions.
The Falcons will remain in Pueblo, Colo. and face off with Colorado State University-Pueblo tomorrow at 6 pm CST.
