Mike Ashley has three children – two daughters and one son – with ex-wife Linda.
His eldest, Anna, is a property developer who also sits on the board of her dad’s company Frasers Group – parent of Sports Direct, House of Fraser, Flannels, and other retail brands.
She is engaged to Michael Murray after reportedly meeting him on holiday in Majorca in 2011.
They now live in a multimillion pound mansion in London’s posh Belgravia.
Mike’s other daughter Matilda owns a cosmetics business while his son Oliver is a DJ.
Mike pumped cash into Oliver’s debt-ridden radio business in 2016 while paying his Sports Direct workers less than the minimum wage.
Who is Anna Ashley’s fiance Michael Murray?
Michael Murray, engaged to Mike Ashley’s daughter Anna, is currently head of elevation at Frasers Group.
He used to work as a nightclub promotor before overseeing his future father-in-law’s personal property portfolio.
The now 31-year-old was later promoted and took on the responsibility of the group’s shop opening and refurbishment plans.
He was also tasked with modernising the business and creating a more upmarket image.
Mike is stepping down from his role as boss and is gearing up to hand the reins over to his daughter’s fiance, who is widely seen as his right hand man.
Doncaster-born Michael has been lined up to become chief executive in May next year.
The Frasers board told investors that a pay and bonus deal is being drawn up on the basis that Michael will become CEO.
He alluded to their alliance in an interview with The Guardian in 2019, saying: “I’m thinking about the next 10 to 20 years. Me and Mike are working like a partnership.”
The group is worth around £3billion and has almost 1,000 shops.
Michael isn’t on the payroll but has taken home more than £15million in fees in the last four years.
Why is Mike Ashley quitting as chief executive of Frasers Group?
Retail tycoon Mike Ashley, who founded Sports Direct in 1982, is getting ready to step down from his roll of boss.
His daughter’s fiance is preparing to step into his shoes and become chief executive.
The company said in an announcement to the stock exchange: “The group’s elevation strategy is transforming the business and receiving positive feedback from consumers and our brand partners, especially on projects such as the new Oxford Street Sports Direct which opened in June 2021.
“The board consider it appropriate that Michael leads us forward on this increasingly successful elevation journey.”
