Artist uses stain remover to create massive portrait of the Queen on muddy rug
An artist has created a bizarre tribute to the Queen on her official birthday using stain remover and a muddy rug.
It took Nathan Wyburn, 31, four hours to create the very detailed 10ft by 13ft ‘masterpiece’ that also features three of the monarch’s famous corgis.
It’s not known if the Queen, who has been in Cornwall celebrating her birthday with world leaders, has yet had a chance to see the piece.
The Welsh artist, who appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in 2011, used paint brushes dipped in stain remover to sketch out the Queen’s face in the dirt.
He said: ‘Over the years, I’ve experimented with various household substances when creating pictures, so naturally I was more than happy to be asked to mark the occasion – quite literally – in celebration of the Queen’s birthday.
‘It wasn’t an easy task, but I’m really pleased with the results and I think Her Majesty will be too – she clearly adores her dogs and was heartbroken when her corgi Fergus died earlier this year. So this should be a lovely reminder of happier times on her birthday.
‘It’s a great way to celebrate a traditional figure with a modernised touch, I can absolutely see this hanging on the palace walls.’
Official celebrations for the occasion are being held throughout the day, including a military parade in Windsor.
The pandemic has meant for the second year in a row the event has had to be scaled back.
At a Big Lunch reception at the Eden project yesterday, the Queen insisted on using a huge ceremonial sword to cut her cake because it was ‘more unusual’.
She’s also gearing up to celebrate her platinum jubilee next year, when all Brits will be given an extra bank holiday.
Cleaning company Dr Beckmann commissioned the portrait to ‘honour’ the monarch and her dogs.
