Man suspected of shooting, killing one person caught following manhunt in Oklahoma County woods
HARRAH, Okla. (KFOR) – The suspect who became the subject of a manhunt in Harrah Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly shot and killed one person is now in custody.
The suspect has not been identified, but authorities confirmed the person he shot died.
The shooting occurred in the 2700 block of Peebly. The Sheriff's Office was notified at 3:14 p.m. about shots fired. Deputies arrived at the scene and found a man dead and a witness at the scene.
The witness said an argument occurred between the suspect and victim and shots were fired.
Deputies launched a manhunt in some woods and told community members in the area to stay inside their homes.
Law enforcement officials found a shotgun that the suspect is believed to have discarded. They ultimately located the suspect and placed him under arrest. His name has not yet been released.
Sylvia Trobaugh, a resident from the area, said the suspect was found walking down the road, a few blocks from the scene of the shooting.
"They caught him right down there," Trobaugh said, gesturing to an area down the way from her. "And I could hear the policeman screaming, 'Get down, I'm going to shoot!' several times. I was scared because we never have anything going on in our neighborhood. This is a very quiet neighborhood. We don't have nothing going on over here."
What led to the shooting is not yet known.
“We’re still investigating that. We’re not really sure. We’re pretty sure it wasn’t a domestic related situation, but we’re still putting everything together; some sort of argument ensued and the shots were fired," said Gary Morgan, Chief of Harrah Police.
A law enforcement official was taken to a hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion.
This is Harrah's first homicide of 2021.
