Martin Keown has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will not have the services of Gareth Bale next season.
The Welshman rounded off his season-long loan with the North Londoners having helped the club to secure a seventh place finish in the Premier League table.
With the score level at 2-2 against Leicester City, Bale came off the bench and proved that he still can be a match winner having netted a brace in the final few minutes of the match which also saw him secure Europa Conference League football for the campaign ahead along with another season having finished above rivals Arsenal.
Keown claimed that although he would like to see remain in the Premier League next season, he believes the 31-year-old has had plenty of opportunities to impress.
Bale still has a year remaining on his contract at Real Madrid and has already returned to the Spanish capital following the conclusion of his loan spell (Evening Standard).
The former Arsenal defender also questioned why Spurs have not been capable of similar performances from what they put in against the Foxes, having suggested that former head coach Jose Mourinho may have been guilty of not giving his side the freedom to express themselves.
Keown said about Bale on BBC Two (6:15pm, May 23, 2021): “I would love him to stay, but I don’t think it’s going to happen because he has had ample opportunities throughout the season.
“When you look at what that Spurs team have done today (against Leicester City), you have to be a little bit suspicious of the performance.
“Where was that earlier in the season? Maybe that was the manager that had the handbrake on.”
