My husband has become very quick to lose his temper — I wonder if he’s autistic
DEAR DEIDRE: MY husband has always been patient and reasonable but over the past three years his behaviour has shifted dramatically and I wonder if he could be autistic.
His brother has dyspraxia, so I’m thinking it could be linked. I’m 49 and he’s 52.
He is now very quick to lose his temper with me and our three children and he has huge meltdowns.
He has completely lost interest in his work – he runs his own online retail business – and regularly comes home in the middle of the afternoon saying he is too tired.
I know he isn’t sleeping well and he even shouts out in the middle of the night.
The only thing he will admit to is having bad headaches which he says are constant.
He won’t “make a fuss” as he puts it, or visit the doctors.

DEIDRE SAYS: I doubt he is autistic, as this condition doesn’t suddenly manifest itself – especially after so many years.
Your husband might not like it but he does urgently need to see his doctor.
His headaches could be the result of a hormonal imbalance which can be easily treated.
The shouting, insomnia and tiredness could all be caused by these debilitating headaches.
Sleep deprivation over long periods is terrible for anyone’s health.
Talk to him when he seems relatively calm and explain how concerned you are.
Explain there could be a really simple solution to get him back on track.
