100 Republicans ‘threaten to form NEW party if GOP doesn’t reject Trump’ as vote to oust Liz Cheney looms
MORE than 100 Republicans are threatening to form a new political party if the GOP doesn’t “reject” Donald Trump as he reportedly prepares to launch another run for the White House.
The latest threat comes as a secret vote to remove Liz Cheney from her position as House GOP Conference Chair is due to take place today following her persistent criticism of Trump.
It’s reported that more than 100 influential Republicans have threatened to form a new political party if the GOP does not distance itself from Trump.
Former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman, former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, and Evan McMullin – who contested the 2016 presidential election as an independent candidate – are among those who are reported to support the movement.
Miles Taylor, who wrote an “Anonymous” op-ed in the New York Times criticizing the Trump presidency in 2018, is also said to be an organizer.
He told NBC News: “We’re going [to] give the GOP one last chance to get its act together and moderate, but we’re not going to hold our breath.”
He suggested that the movement would work with candidates that support “its principles” including moderates and independents.
It comes as Rep. Cheney, of Wyoming, continues to fire back at Trump, who is still claiming that the presidential election was “stolen from him“
She said yesterday: “Millions of Americans have been misled by the former president. They hear his words but not the truth.
“This not about policy. This is not about partisanship. This is about our duty as Americans.”
She continued: “Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar.”
“I will not participate in that. I will not sit back and watch in silence, while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former president’s crusade to undermine our democracy.”
Cheney blasted fellow Republicans for backing the former president even after the attack on the US Capitol earlier this year.
Republicans have instead maintained their distance from Cheney, with GOP House leader Kevin McCarthy calling for her removal from her spot as the House Republican Conference chair.
He cited her denouncings of Trump as being against the party’s interest to retake the House next year.
Trump, who is reportedly plotting another run for the White House, has since called her a “socialist nightmare” and “warmonger”.
In one blog post, he wrote: “The House GOP has a massive opportunity to upgrade this week from warmonger Liz Cheney to gifted communicator Elise Stefanik.”
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy previously slammed Cheney after she accused Trump of “poisoning” democracy.
He told Steve Doocy off-air before a live “Fox and Friends” interview, “I think she’s got real problems. “I’ve had it with … I’ve had it with her,” according to Axios.
The Republican’s comments prompted Joe Biden to troll the GOP over the “significant, mini-revolution that was taking place within the party”, which he claimed left them more divided than ever.
The Democrat said: “It seems as though the Republican Party is trying to identify what it stands for.”

Hours after admitting he didn’t “understand” the GOP, he said: “They’re in the midst of a significant, sort of, mini-revolution going on in the Republican Party.
“I think the Republicans are further away from trying to figure out who they are and what they stand for than I thought they would be at this point.
“We badly need a republican party,” he went on. “We need a two-party system … It’s not healthy to have a one-party system.”
